HISTORY

The heart of Windmill Meats began in a small town in Holland.  Coming from a family with generations of successful butchers and shop owners, our founding butcher (Douwe) moved to Canada at the age of 20, looking to use his gifts and talents and to pursue his dream in Canada.  After settling in Salmon Arm and starting a family, his dream and talents were materialized as he and his wife started Windmill Meats, which now serves the community of Salmon Arm. 

Windmill Meats started out in the industrial park in 1993, with a small cutting and wrapping area and retail space. In 1995, the store moved to downtown Salmon Arm due to increased customer demands. In 2018, the opportunity came to expand by moving to our current location at Westgate Public Market. Today, our store is a full-service butcher shop offering a variety of meats as well as specialty imports, cheese and giftware.
